  • Confederate Artillery 1/72 scale Civil War set

Over the past few weeks, I have been ordering a number of 1/72 scale Confederate and Union plastic soldiers, artillery, supply wagons, and cavalry sets. All of these sets were trimmed off their stands and glued to rectangular tiles. All of these tiles would have a display showing - unit / corp / attack strength / movement and morale. These units were set up for the two opposing sides (Union and Confederate) to be used in my college tabletop war game - The Battle of GETTYSBURG: Three Days in July. The counters were adapted from a computer game on the subject. The table-top measures 12' X 7' and has levels for the terrain, as well as trees and foliage, too. Also, there are HO scale houses and buildings, along with barns and fences, and several small bridges.. The town of Gettysburg has a half-finished RR, too. Included is a 4-4-0 Baldwin HO scale locomotive and Civil War era coach cars. Of course, the train will depart as the Confederates move closer to the town. Therefore, one can readily see that these plastic 1/72nd scale Civil War sets are being utilized in a very large war game. These units work well for this size of game table. The class is being taught this semester in Wofford College's LifeLong Learning series. Wofford is located in Spartanburg, SC. These hour and a half classes, meeting once a week for eight weeks, are for individuals to enjoy participating in various activities. My class meets at the American Legion Post #28 building, near Duncan Park in Spartanburg. This allows me to leave the tabletop set up in the basement for the eight week period. I do have pictures, but if I click off this, then I lose this info. If interested, I can send them later. baronvonben (Adjunct Professor - Wofford College and at Spartanburg Community College)
