Painful Biopic of a Tormented Genius

CAVEAT for non-Van Gogh fans: This alleged biopic based on Vincent van Gogh's life and art is difficult to watch unless you have a high tolerance for films featuring an *extremely* neurotic protagonist. Douglas does an impressive job of portraying van Gogh, and the supporting cast is excellent, especially Anthony Quinn as Gauguin. However, not everyone will be able to empathize with van Gogh. This is not a feel-good popcorn flick. For a more enjoyable experience, I highly recommend the "Vincent and the Doctor" episode of DOCTOR WHO, with Matt Smith as the Doctor.

    • Classic movie!

Kirk Douglas was terrific in his role as Vincent Van Gogh! Great story! What a tortured soul!

    • Hardly shown on TV anymore

Although the film is somewhat antiquated, and the acting is sub-par by today's standards, I did get in in-depth insight into the psyche of Vincent Van Gogh.

    • DVD didn't work.

DVD didn't work, even though brand new. I returned it at my cost cause I couldn't access paid return postage. Now I'm just waiting to see if he'll replace the bad DVD.
