The Amplified Bible helps one to understand in everyday English, various passages/verses.
The Amplified Bible is well-named. Upon reading it, you see that a lot of passages that are puzzling have been "amplified" or explained with a few words that make the verse easier to understand. In no way is the text changed to mean something different. The meaning is kept in tact, just supplies words that help me (anyone) understand the particular passage.
