This is a decent product. be sure you secure it to a bench or larger surface. use smooth strokes, don't force. I found that when I used a lighter touch it cut much faster and easier because the teeth tend to catch. it actually cuts better after it's been used a little. The metal bar that goes under it is useless but that's okay, can't see how anyone would want it.. you should always measure... and not rely on a piece of metal that moves for your gauge. The material is cast and seems like it will last a very long time. The action is smooth. replacement blades are a pain.. you'll have to purchase directly from Stanely so buy some extras to keep on hand. I will say that Stanley customer service is outstanding though. they sent me a new blade and I had it in a couple of days. This is a very nice miter box for 90 45 54(pentagon) 60(hexagon) 67.5(octagon) and 75(dodecagon 12 sided polygon). Those are the preset detents for positions. It does not lock into any other degree increments. I needed a variable miter for cutting 78 deg and 57 deg for a cabinet I was making. This was a waist of my time.

I've been looking for this Stanley Miter Box Saw for some time at a reasonable price. At local stores, it is $49.95, while at other online outlets, $10 cheaper but shipping is extra. Here, at this amazing price and free shipment, I couldn't let this bargain go even though I had to fudge on my budget (I'm retired). I ordered it on Saturday the 25th of the month, expecting it to arrive five days later, on Thursday. Surprise, only two days later on Monday afternoon, I found it at my door. Talk about great customer service, I was really surprised. Amazing! After opening the box, I had it assembled in about 15 minutes, and immediately started using it on an ongoing project. The project is a 1/12th scale working Trebuchet, made of red oak, with many different support beam angles. My project ... This miter really made my day. I waded right in and was delighted with the ease of use and the results. It has a peg system for holding the wood in place, a track system for guiding the saw blade, and an easy to use lock swivel for easy angle selection. The angel selection isn't perfect but it is a lot better than what I had before. The relatively fine tooth saw blade cut easily through the red oak, much better than my old miter saw. I'm sure I sound excited about this miter, and I am. Now, I'm back to work on my stalled project, a gift for my nephew. Yes, I highly recommend this incredible bargain.

New from old
Old base broke when a 4 x 4 accidently was dropped on it. With clamps and braces and epoxy the base was repaired but gone was the accuracy it had before the mishap. The base of this used unit was in great shape and when the full compliment of guide rods from the old one were installed, an easy to set up and use miter box saw was achieved. Thank you.

This is, indeed a low coat miter saw but it really is nicely made and nicely engineered. Light weight, yes, but rips through wood at accurate angles nicely. Some creative touches are the depth stop rings and the end stop rod. This allows you to cut items at exact equal length or to cut down to a exact depth. Yes, it is light weight not for commercial use but WELL WORTH the cost! The blade is fantastic for most woods.
