This little gem was the hottest upgrade for Atom-based set-top boxes with their anemic video decoding. Drop one in and you have smooth FullHD. Today any matchbox computer has hardware video decoder built-in, and XBMC-like apps do not need (and do not support) this thing anymore, but if you have a ThinkPad X60/61 (t) — you're in for a treat. FullHD (youtube too) on a C2D laptop from year 2006, how do yo like it? You will need a free PCI-X slot on laptop's system board, and finding latest drivers on broadcom's abomination of a website is not easy, amf to play your files yo'll need a compatible player (mpc-hc still support it), and you will need to setup it properly - but you'r aging coder's laptop will gain some entertainig values. plus reduced cpu temp. Worth every penny, go for it, but google first.Read full review

Simple and easy to use, comes with all the necessary screws provided. The device works as expected and the electronics are relatively straight forward so there is not much to go wrong. The metal case should provide reasonable protection for the mSATA SSD against day-to-day knocks, etc.; though the metal is fairly thin so might deform if crushed. As a 9.5mm thick enclosure this is standard 2.5" hard-disk size, though most 2.5" SSDs are slimmer, and I imagine this enclosure could probably have been made inline with the thinner sizes, but this does not pose an issue in the anticipated use case.
