I have bought six. Ones with early serial numbers Axxxxxx to Fxxxxxx need a low impedance switch such as a mechanical camera shutter, and don't work with radio or optical triggers. In addition to that they have a high trigger voltage and are NOT advisable for digital cameras or low voltage radio or opto-electrical equipment. I have had a shock off the end of the Prontor-Compur cable. Ones with serial numbers Kxxxxxx and later do (in my case) work with radio or optical triggers so can be used as slave units (which is what I bought them for). BUT one needs to check that the radio or optical triggers can take the high voltage. Mine work with Panagor/Shiba optical triggers or the Sonia optical trigger rated for 400V. These do the job and are robust and easy to set up either via old ISO (non-TTL) hot-shoe or via Prontor-Compur cable. They are automatic only in that they have a light cell to measure reflection which automatically adjusts duration of flash for any given aperture and film speed (ISO) setting. They do the job for very little money as long as one knows their limitations.Read full review
