I had 2 pairs during the 80's and also a pair of Yammy NS10. The 1000's sounded great and are built well. I used them with turntables, Linn LP12 & Pink Triangle With my increased amount of CD, mp3 & WAV downloaded digital music i found that they couldn't express the music as well as todays newer speakers. Speaker design and construction has improved so much since the 80's. Much better cone and magnet technology, cabinet construction/design, advances in electronic circuitry and improved sound isolation & insulation. Don't be put of by "Made in China" speakers which you see today as i have had top brands with this on the back and they sound fantastic. Do not also be fooled with the "They don't make them like they used to" comment. Moulded design loudspeakers using some of the latest materials, sound better than many wooden cabinets. My Yamaha NS10 still have their place in some of the most prestigious recording studious around the world. The NS1000 are a vintage classic like my old KEFF 104.2 but unfortunately these have suffered and have been replaced by modern loudspeakers in the audiophile living room. Think of how far home TV sets and television broadcasting technology has come since the 70/80's. It is the same with HiFi. If you want vintage loudspeakers, that's fine. If you want a great listening experience, there are many much newer loudspeakers to choose from that sound better.Read full review

Without doubt these are the best sounding speakers I have ever heard. When you think that you have heard all there is to hear in your music collection' think again. These speakers bring out all of the original sounds that you never realised was in the recordings. The Yamaha NS1000 Monitors set a standard that has never been equalled by any other manufacturer. If you want to hear the music as it was recorded in the studio' they will take you right there.

The beryllium mid and top drivers provide a transparency and (particularly) attack you will never hear again. Imaging is pinpoint, drums will blow you away. The spoken word sounds like it's in the room with you, so it makes a superb basis for home cinema. The distortion doesn't increase with volume unlike normal units, so loud still sounds natural, and it goes properly LOUD! The bass, although it goes low has a particular dryness which you may not like, I didn't, but a sub beefs it up a bit. But you can get bass anywhere, NOTHING does the rest of the spectrum like these.
