I have a compatible firewire cable (FireWire 800 to FireWire 400) and the camera works fine. I connected it to an older Mac, with Leopard, and updated the iSight camera's firmware from 1.0.2 to 1.0.3. Then I connected the iSight camera to a newer Mac, with Mac OS El Capitan, and the video and audio works on FaceTime and the video and audio also works with my ZOOM virtual meetings app. I was also able get Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan to use the microphone, on my iSight Camera, for dictation. So, I am happy with this used iSight camera. The video quality is only 480p but, the motion is very fluid and the color is eye-pleasing and balanced. Some of the participants in my ZOOM meetings look like they are using a cam with 240p or 144p, with choppy frame rates so, this is a good camera and it is native Mac hardware and that is why my ZOOM virtual meetings app was able to work well this cam.Read full review

The original iSight camera is a great product for those older computers with FireWire. It works as soon as you plug it in, and the magnetic mount works well with displays that have a magnetic surface on top. I also like that you can close the aperture to turn it off, so you can rest assured you have privacy when you don't mean to use it. The only bad thing is that it doesn't seem to work in Windows, if you're using Boot Camp. But I'm not planning to use video chat features there anyway.

Beautiful piece of industrial design that fits perfectly with mid-2000s aluminum body Apple machines. That integrates nicely and having it use firewire is easy and convenient. it's a VGA base system to the image quality is subpar by today's standards but it'll work for showing your ugly kids to the grandparents.
