The Metz 58 AF-2 is a very well constructed electronic flash unit. I bought one to replace my Pentax AF-540FGZ which was still in excellent condition, however the Pentax flash is somewhat fragile and has the worst battery door design ever. The Metz has all the capabilities of the Pentax unit, a better build, metal foot, secondary flash head for fill during bounce flash and is firmware update able via USB cord. A major benefit to Metz AF series digital flash units is neutral daylight color temperature. My daylight and shade condition fill in flash photos need far less color correction than ones taken with the Pentax AF-540 FGZ which puts out a more yellow spectrum. The Metz main drawback is its pushbutton menu system. Metz likes minimalist controls, so one must push a series of buttons to change parameters and settings. Once you get used to it, the system works, however, a more intuitive control system would have been nice. The P-TTL and HSS P-TTL in direct or bounce modes work as they should with my Pentax K-3, KP and K-70, providing more accurate exposures than my OE Pentax flashes, which ai have since sold. The Metz 58 AF-2 also works very well in TTL mode with older film bodies and A autoflash mode too. Used, the Metz 50 series AF- and AF-2 flashes are an outstanding value. Read full review
