I'm a pro photographer and purchased this camera as a gift for my daughter's 12th b'day as an intro DSLR. In, 2003, The D100 was the 1st DSLR camera that I purchased after using Nikon F5 film cameras for years. The camera is very easy to use and intuitive and is a great step up to 'proper' digital photography if you are familiar with the film SLRs that Nikon has made. The 6.1MP resolution may appear to be low compared to today's standards, but Nikon's optics provide superbly clear and stunning images. The item that I had purchased was used and had been kept in good condition. The metal contacts were clean, the shutter curtain was unblemished and the body showed signs of wear but not unexpected considering its age. The great thing with the D100 is the metal chassis; it makes the camera feel substantial & robust rather than cheap & 'plasticky' [if there is such a word?]. The higher end of the ISO settings [ie ISO 1600+] do have lots of noise but are excellent considering the age of the technology. The white balance settings are consistent with today's modern cameras. The D100 was one of the 1st DSLRs that allowed you to change the point of focus using the selection button rather than having to focus & recompose through the viewfinder.Read full review
Great Camera which was once a beast in its heyday. great ISO control with minimum noise at high ISO, well thats what Nikon has always been doing, low light heroes. great value for money, 6 Megapixels is really all you need for most beginner photographers. I my self own a D800, but i really like the D100, great image quality for the price. however it is essential that you get good glass (lenses) on that body :D
