This lens is actually pretty sharp on stationary objects in decent light. It's noticeably sharper than my sweet little underrated 55-300 mm. Since this is a full frame lens, you get the applicable reach to 450 mm and that is an excellent bargain on a crop sensor! The color and bokeh is very nice, and the sharpness is fairly consistent with the exception of the extreme focal lengths which are still pretty acceptable. Now for the not-so-good. This lens is an AF with the aperture on the barrel, but this is neither a low-light lens nor is it fast enough for birds in flight or running animals. You could probably lock focus, but it's a struggle. If you can find this lens for under $75 and you don't need it for action or low light (or you just want a knock-around lens for hiking), I HIGHLY recommend it. If your needs exceed those parameters, invest in some good quality glass or be content with consumer glass.Read full review

I. Recently picked up a new Pentax K-1 with the 28-105 lens and needed a longer lens. This hit the mark in terms of price and reach. The image is a bit soft wide open, but between f/8 and f/16 it's nice and sharp. Build quality is average, a bit plasticy, but typical of the Pentax lenses of that time.

It is sharp from 100-300mm, slow but accurate focus, low price, light in weight, it can be shot handheld. Good for portraits, birds, and the whole range. Its only negative things are: the not so strong look and a little noise when zooming. Like every zoom, it does not behave well with low llight. WOndeful with flash. I recommend.

The lens is all kinds of body with the motor but the photos are with it. Nice sharp and clean. I can always put it in manual to make it quiet. For the money it is a worth while buy & would buy another.
