Sergeant York (VHS)
Still one of the best Gary Cooper movies ever made. A crisis of conscience leads York to faith in the religion of his mother and her prayers - but comes to a real clincher when drafted into a war he wanted no part of - WWI. Walter Brennan plays his minister who tries to help York find the answers through Scriptural thought and writes a letter on his behalf as a "consiencious objector" due to his understanding of the commandment "Thou shalt not kill". Losing this battle and being forced to war, York is placed in the hands of a patriot for his country as well as for his faith, sending York on "leave" to think things over. The climax of this movie is thrilling revealing perhaps a deeper meaning behind the word "kill" in the commandments he now holds so dear - saving more lives by "rendering ... Still one of the best Gary Cooper movies ever made.
