Die Ultrastar 7K4000 von Hitachi ist eine 3,5 Zoll große HDD-Festplatte, ist für den internen Gebrauch in Desktopcomputern vorgesehen und kann im Gehäuse verschraubt werden. Für die Verbindung mit dem Rechner wird die SATA-Schnittstelle verwendet und das Speichervolumen der Ultrastar beträgt 4 TB. Die Festplatte schreibt Daten im Perpendicular Magnetic Recording Verfahren mit einer Geschwindigkeit von bis zu 7200 RPM, wobei für die Zwischenspeicherung ein 64 MB großer Cache zur Verfügung steht.
