About this product

Product Information

FASA Corporation's cyberpunk role-playing game is the inspiration for this futuristic first-person shooter from the development team behind such titles as MechWarrior, MechAssault, and Crimson Skies. Loosely based on the pen-and-paper RPG, Shadowrun for Xbox 360 and PC takes place in the year 2021, where advanced technology and arcane magic are both used in warfare between the RNA, a ruthless megacorporation, and the Lineage, a resistance force. Players will choose either side as they engage in team-based combat supporting up to 16 players via Internet.

An offline training mode is included to help players perfect their shooting skills against AI bots, but the heart of the game is its multiplayer component. To ensure the widest possible community, Shadowrun features cross-platform technology, allowing both PC and Xbox 360 owners to team up or compete against one other in an assortment of game types. Each faction offers a choice of human, elf, dwarf, and troll characters with distinct racial traits, such as health regeneration and technical skill. In between battles, players can purchase magic, technology, or weapons to use in combat, from vision enhancements to teleportation spells.

  • The Start of a New Form of FPS

Shadowrun, for all those who do not know, is an FPS that utilizes not only weaponry but magic abilities as well. This concept is very fresh and integrates well into gameplay. The graphics of the games are very smooth and have a very nice feel to them. Not cartoon-like, but more of a Team Fortress feel. There are two main problems that I have had with Shadowrun on the PC: one is that no matter how much I tried I could not stay connected to a game for more than 10 minutes. I tested to make sure that it wasn't my computer, but games like Halo 2 and Counter-Strike worked perfectly fine online. The other problem I had was the lack of a single-player campaign, which I would be less disappointed with if my connection would last through a game. All in all, I had technical trouble with it, but ...

  • Surprisingly Good, Despite the Bad Press

I picked this game up before all of the negative reviews started coming out at gaming sites like IGN, et al. Had I seen them beforehand, I doubt I would have purchased this game. That would have been a shame. This is one of the most addictive shooters ever to grace the market. It is also balanced, which is an unheard-of accomplishment in the genre; no one race, or combination of weapons, magic, and tech is all-powerful. Every point has its equal counterpoint, and many different types of players can enjoy the game using their own playstyles. Moreover, there is so much more involved than with most shooters, because of the magic and tech available. You get a limited amount of money each round, so your build strategy becomes very important, and must alter depending on map, game type, ...

  • A fun frag fest, minus the role-playing goodness

As a fan of the pen-and-paper role playing game of the same name, I was a little hesitant to purchase this game because of its lack of role-playing elements. In addition, the lack of user created mods puts a damper on this game. These issues aside, Shadowrun is a fun, blast 'em to pieces multiplayer extravanganza with good graphics, a nice assortment of upgrades (spells, technology, and a nice, but small, variety of weapons). The four races (human, dwarf, troll, elf) are all recognizably different, and require different tactics to master their unique abilities. If you are not up to multiplayer with live people, the game offers a single player mode that mimics the live experience to a greater or lesser degree, and on the highest settings the AI can be brutal. Overall, this is a fun ...

  • Decent, nothing more.

The 360 version of this game is much better, but I'm reviewing the PC version. Pros - Unique powers add twists to standard gameplay - Game looks very "clean" on the PC, much better than the 360 Cons - Very unfriendly for Mouse/Keyboard users. All of the option menus are designed with console buttons. The game is also impossible to play with a mouse/keyboard until you dig through the options and enable the keyboard/mouse and get rid of the stupid stuff like invert with a mouse. - Lack of maps/gamemodes

  • Good For multiplayer

I have played the demo on the 360. This game is definitely made for competition. Because it does not have a single player-besides training-I do hope that the developers have a load of maps planned for multi-player. This game has about 12 maps, I think that's kind of sad.I can just hope :). I also like that fact Vista gamers like my self can play with my friends who have the 360 version without having to buy a 360. If you like the HALO series, UNREAL , quake , and basically any competitive FPS this is the one for you.
