    Alterna pop for a new millennium.

    CHVRCHES is a fresh sound of youthful exuberance. I like how they sound as if they've discovered the elektronika sound of the 80s - not to emulate it to get the attention of an older demographic and build a big fanbase outside their own generation - but as something that, to them, is simply a neat, new toy that they can express themselves with. This first album perhaps wanders a bit. This Target edition, second of three versions of the album (The third being a now hard to find 30 track Japanese version) shows they have no shortage of ideas. It's a good listen to their early effort if your first introduction to them was their second album Every Open Eye, very much a focusing of their efforts, by contrast. I look forward to their advancement as this decade progresses.
