Holux M-1000 Pocketable, Reliable, Accurate BT GPS
04/2015 - ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW Unit is now seven years old. Still works great, still on original battery. The OEM 12V charger died so I picked up an AC charger on eBay which works well. It pairs quickly with my N78, N75 as well as my Nokia 6290. I've seen other reviews mentioning a need for an antenna for in-car use but to date I've always been able to grab five or six signals from my Saturn's ashtray holder, or trouser pocket. On road trips - good success. I've used it while walking about with good success as well. I continue to endorse it. ---- This GPS receiver is really amazing. Small, light and seemingly pretty accurate. The Good: 1. - Very light weight, it is under two ounces, it is easy to put in your pocket and forget what is feeding your position to your mobile's map ... 04/2015 - ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW Unit is now seven years old. The Good: 1. - Very light weight, it is under two ounces, it is easy to put in your pocket and forget what is feeding your position to your mobile's map software. 2. - Runs for a good period of time on a charge. 3. - Although not a direct and exact fit the Nokia BL-4B makes a good "need it in an emergency" back-up battery. Contacts, polarity and voltage all match. The Nokia battery's length and width are identical to the Holux cell, the Nokia is a wee bit thinner. These are readily available on eBay for next to nothing. The BL-5C appears to be a better fit. 4. - In under a minute from the time you turn on the unit your mobile is connected and you are receiving data for your navigation program. The Not So Good 1. - The charger port does not have a dust/moisture seal to keep it pristine between charges. For me this is large issue. 2. - Removing the battery cover is a real nuisance at first. The cryptic instructions were of little to no help. All they did was identify that there was a removeable battery cover. 3. - No alternating current charger in retail package. The only charger that shipped with the receiver was a 12 volt DC charger. A multi-volt 100 - 240 volt 50/60 Hertz charger would be a nice touch. If I want it to charge overnight I have to leave it in my vehicle overnight. The Holux web site does not display nor mention an alternating current charger for this unit. 4. - No source for replacement battery apparent. Holux web site does not offer any information about the physical specifications, part number or cross reference for the battery installed in the unit. Once the battery goes bad it's time to buy another unit. Using the Holux M-1000 GPS Receiver I am using it with a Nokia N78-3 running S60. The software I am running is Nokia Maps 2.0 with the optional voice navigation. The Holux is a carefree unit. I put the phone in the cradle that was supposed to be for the Holux. The Holux goes in the ash tray. I turn it on, it pairs with the phone and I'm ready to go. This takes less than a minute. With Nokia Maps 2.0 most of the 3-5 metre off-location issue I previously mentioned in this review is now gone. Appears to have been a software issue or a known issue with the Holux for which the software now compensates. It's pretty much right on the money. Aside from the nitpicking of the design and accessories I did above this has been a trouble-free unit for the years I've had it. It is well worth the money and it is hard to imagine that for well under fifty dollars so much functionality is to be had. I'd advise anyone needing a GPS receiver to consider this one.

GPS Rxer works great
After acquiring a Pocket PC, I decided to enable it with A GPS software package. Since it did not have an internal GPS receiver, I opted for the Holux M-1000 GPS receiver with Bluetooth. I don't have any previous experience with Bluetooth GPS receivers, so my purchase was based on available compatability specs. All I can say is, it works!, and it works good!. My initial test with the receiver was on a 1400 mile round trip. Most of the time I kept the receiver in my pocket and it never lost satellite contact or connection to the Pocket PC. The stated 23 hours of battery life could not be verified, but this was not a show-stopper as the receiver also came with a 12vdc auto adapter. This was not used during the trip as 23 hours of battery life is plenty. Recharge time is relatively fast. ... After acquiring a Pocket PC, I decided to enable it with A GPS software package. Good battery life, and highly portable unit.
The Holux M-1000 is a great device in itself. Uses bluetooth to communicate the GPS data from a laptop, pda, cellphone, etc. It small size makes it very easy to transport, and the great batterly life will give hours of tracking before worriying about charging. Better yet, it follow standar gps communication, so it can be used in a variety of platform. So far i've tested it using Nokia Cellphones (symbian), Linux OS, MacOSX, Windows, and some hybrid carputer systems. The price and all the benefits listed, make this product a must !The Holux M-1000 is a great device in itself. Compact, powerful, acurrate, what more do you need ?
This is the third Holux unit I have bought and each time I am suprised by how good the unit it is for the price. These Bluetooth units are the simplest external GPS unit I have found. The Bluetooth connection is flawless and works with every system I have from iPAQs, phones, to laptops with a USB Bluetooth key. The acquisition times, both hot and cold, are very low and the accuracy of the system when operational is very high. Using these systems with any type of application from TomTom in the car to marine applications on the lakes is so simple due to the good design. The battery life is very very high, and the fact that it is a common Nokia battery make life easy for replacement. Overall this was a great purchase for a very high quality unit.This is the third Holux unit I have bought and each time I am suprised by how good the unit it is for the price. good gps signal - small size
The holux m-1000 bluetooth gps is a great little unit for taking trips, hiking, or tracking routes. The biggest positive for me is that it is easy to use, and the battery lasts a long time. which makes it a perfect match for any bluetooth phone or computer. Overall the only negative that I have noticed is that the leds on the body are very bright, which bothers me at night when it is on my dashboard. Other than that it is a great little unit.The holux m-1000 bluetooth gps is a great little unit for taking trips, hiking, or tracking routes.
