Darren (Jason Biggs of American Pie) is convinced that he'll never know love, since his one true love moved away during high school. To cheer him up, Darren's best friends Wayne (Steve Zahn, Out of Sight, That Thing You Do) and J.D. (Jack Black, High Fidelity) hook him up with Judith (Amanda Peet, The Whole Nine Yards)--little suspecting that Judith will tear their friendship apart. Judith wastes no time in taking over Darren's life, exiling his friends, and burning his beloved Neil Diamond records. If only Wayne and J.D. can bring Darren back together with his high school sweetheart (Amanda Detmer), who's about to become a nun. Saving Silverman is unquestionably of the There's Something About Mary school of comedy, throwing together absurd characters and over-the-top gags (for example, a scene of Darren getting butt implants, per Judith's orders). It doesn't quite balance everything, but Black and Zahn are engaging comic talents. Also featuring R. Lee Ermey as the boy's deranged high school football coach, whose advice continues to guide their lives, as well as a surprise appearance by Neil Diamond himself.Read full review
This is the type of movie that one should not take lightly. With an all-star cast including Amanda Peet, Jack Black, Steve Zahn, and Jason Biggs, to name a few, you can't go wrong. Neil Diamond makes his 2nd debut, is that possible? in Saving Silverman. The shenanigans are abound and the laughter continues as we learn to love the well-develpoed characters and their antics. The soundtrack is exquisite, what with a sprinkling of Neil, as well as other well-loved tunes. This tells a well-written story of a young man (Biggs) so desperate for love that he, or more like his best friends (Black and Zahn) from grade school, find him involved in a relationship where he is a puppet and his fiance (Peet) the puppet master. His best friends then decide that this is not in the best interest of anyone and set out to change the situation. I was not an Amanda Peet fan, so to speak, but when I watched this I instantaneously fell in love with her! I have seen every movie she has been in since. Already a fan of the other cast mambers I knew that it would be justified. I cannot say that I disliked anything about the movie, even the nuns were portrayed in a "redeeming' light.Read full review

Great Movie! I bouught this movie because of Steve Zahn and Jack Black. Putting these guys together was a smart move because they really click together and make a great comedic team. There are a lot of laughs and excellent one-liners. The Coach is hilarious too! The plot involves a couple of guys that kidnap their other best friend's high powered fiance because they feel she is totally not for him--not to mention she doesn't want him to be their friend anymore. She feels they are too childdish and idiotic for him. But best friends since childhood are hard to separate, especially when another beautiful girl enters the picture. Enjoy the movie!
