When this player/recorder arrived, I was a little apprehensive since it had not been cleaned and was rather dirty and dusty on the outside. However, after I cleaned it and cleaned the head, it looked and performed well. I am quite pleased with my purchase for a very reasonable price.

The owner stated the unit is in good working order. The unit arrived to my home. I plugged it in the electric socket...Four buttons on the unit were not responding...the power button, play, rewind, eject buttons, inoperative. Lost 75 bucks...never again I would.

I do a lot of video updating & I needed a VCR that has all the features that bring out the best in the video playback. Since the DVD has taken over the video scene, most VCRs have very few features for this purpose. By going to the SONY website, I was able to determine what machine had what I needed. The SLV-N81 & the prior year SLV-N80, have a Reality Regenerator, Adaptive Picture Control & a sharpness adjustment. These make the perfect combination of features to enhance my conversions.
You cannot go wrong with this Sony. I have bought several different brands of VCRs, and Sony always has the best video and sound quality. I use mine every day. It's a true work horse and it hasn't failed. I don't know how it compares to the newer models because I haven't had to replace it. But if and when I have to retire this great VCR it will be with another Sony.
Arrived on time. Works very well. Even has the original remote. I am very pleased.

Considering this is way outdated technology it makes 20-40 year old VHS cassettes look pretty great. And it has a large remote which is hard to lose. I'm happy with this VCR!

Now we can tape episodes of 30-Something and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman! Seriously, Sony made a good product back in the day, and I've been pulling the old VHS tapes out of the closet and digitizing the good ones.

The one Con is that the listing did not specify that it did not have a remote. Most listings specify yes or no Remote. With a little "Redneck Riggin" I was able to connect it to a more modern Player with HDMI output, and thence to a Smart TV.

I purchased this so that I can convert my old VCR tapes to digital media. It works great! It shipped very very quickly and came in a secure box. It was a good price for what I purchase. Very impressed!

Needed a replacement for my old VHS player, which happened to be an exact duplicate. Worked great, didn't mind the scratches or the missing remote, as my old remote still worked with it!
