The HT1250 is a great radio; it solid and a decent size. One just needs to understand that this is not a toy, it's a serious, commercial/public safety grade walkie talkie. As such, it requires professional programming unless you have the cable and software; both of which can be found here on eBay. If you have some decent, beginning knowledge, learning to program it is not too much of a challenge. It should also really be noted that to use this radio, you need a license unless you are using it out someone else's license and it's properly programmed for them. If you think you are going to use this as a better FRS radio, you need to set those channels to low power, but get your GMRS license ($70 for 5 years), and it gives you legal access to some frequencies that you can use as a family with lots of power. I am 7.5 miles, as the crow flies, from a repeater I use, and I can hit it with no issues! Looking forward to getting it programmed with HAM Freqs once I finish getting my license.Read full review

Great radio. I work EMS in two counties so the zone feature allows me to have different channels for both. Allows me to add or delete scan channels so if I can scan PD if i know theres a big job going on or delete it if I just want to scan the county ems and fire channels. Only bad thing (not about the radio) but the charger I got with it isn't working anymore so I had to order a new one.
