Stephen King's classic vampire novel receives another television adaptation in the made-for-cable mini-series SALEM'S LOT. Rob Lowe assumes David Soul's 1979 starring role as Ben Mears, a writer who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot to research his new book and come to terms with a secret childhood trauma. But the Maine hamlet is also being visited by two new strangers--antiques merchant Richard Straker (Donald Sutherland) and his menacing companion Kurt Barlow (Rutger Hauer)--whose sinister dealings prompt Mears to investigate a rash of townsfolk disappearances with the help of his former grade school teacher Matt Burke (Andre Braugher), lovelorn small-town waitress Susan Norton (Samantha Mathis), and local parish priest Father Callahan (James Cromwell).

    Good take on a classic novel

    Closer to Stephen kings novel than the previoius TV Movie ( which I love ) Like the book there is no Blue 7ft vampire. (which I also Like ) The pacing is good and the Acting is good. Fans of the novel will appreciate it more than fans of the previous TV movie. Maybe its time for another one..

    Not as good as the orignal

    Watchable but not nearly as good as the original with David Soul as Ben. James Mason was a thousand times more creepy than Donald Sutherland . For its time the 1979 version was a very scary film.

    The 2004 remake although watchable, is not as good as the earlier version and neither of them do full justice to Stephen King's novel.
