    What it takes...

    A documentary it might be, but I became engrossed in the details, the discipline, and the hours and years of dedicated work just to ATTEMPT to become a Prima Ballerina in Russia. Some of the five that are featured did not actually succeed. But you have to come away in awe at their sacrifices just to please us, the audience. I was fascinated at this work, and as the cover says, it was really "Enchanting".

    The making of a Russian prima ballerina

    Five stories on five up and coming ballerinas trained in the Vaganova system, and dancing for the Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia. Contains a nice mix of candid interviews, spectacular performance clips, as well as glimpses of the low moments of endless correction by perfectionistic balletmasters. Interviews with current Vaganova headmistress (and former prima ballerina) Altenai Asylmuratova are illuminating. Ballet lovers will want to watch this over and over again. Guaranteed. The segments on current prima Diana Vishneva and Ulyana Lopatkina are worth the price of the DVD alone.

    Can summarize in one word: GREAT!

    If you love "ballet," this is a must-have. I love the coverage of the ballerinas in this video. Very educational as well as entertaining. I have viewed it four times, shared it with friends, and look forward to watching many, many more times. It's "that" good!

    Beautiful film.

    The film follows some incredible dancers and is an insight into their lives and work. I bought it because of the beautiful film work as well as the skilled and professional dancing. It was a fascinating film to show to students of ballet.
