About this product

Product Information

Ys Book I & II is a first-person action RPG, in which you play the role of the noble Adol. In the first book, you must find the six Books of Ys, and in the second book, you must return them. Along the way you unravel a conspiracy far worse than anyone could imagine.

The land of Ys was a peaceful land, and prosperous. The land was ruled by two goddesses, and six priests. Magic was used for everything, from the essential, to the mundane. All this magic power came from a mysterious stone called the Black Pearl. The priests used this magic and created a new metal called Cleria, which in turn brought the land great riches. The peace and prosperity didn't last. A great evil came to the land soon after Cleria was developed. Thinking the Cleria had brought the evil, the priests buried it, and using their powers, raised the land of Ys into the sky. Fearing their downfall, the priests wrote the story into six books and passed them on to their descendents.

For 800 years, the land of Ys was peaceful. Then the Cleria was discovered. The lands below had great riches and peace, then the evil came again. This time, there may be some hope for the people of Ys. A wandering swordsman named Adol has come from across the sea, searching for the fabled "Books of Ys." With a pure heart, he searches for the books, and an end to the evil.

  • An absolute must own classic

There isn't a whole to review here. This game is a must own. The TurboGrafx version has the best soundtrack, bar none. It isn't the most difficult game, but it is enjoyable and you will want to play it many times, just as I have over the past 25 years or so. As you progress, the game does get more and more difficult; Book II is much more difficult than the first. If you cannot afford the TurboGrafx version as it is enjoying an inflated and false value, look for the Sega Master System version as it is the original and the one that introduced the United States to Adol and this wonderful game. But if you want the best, this is it.

  • 5 Star Game......Period

Simply one of the funniest oldskool RPG'S out there. its so much fun crashing into enemy's and bosses and leveling up! I'm a person that like grinding for levels and loot and there's plenty of that right here in the first Ys Game On the Turbographx. I,ve been long time ys player and this is so much fun to come back to and just get lost in Ys. Falcom makes great games and the music is so good for a oldie RPG Love it......5 Star Game......Period

  • Buy this game (If you can find it)

Just like FFVII for the PS1, this is the defining CD-ROM game for the Turbografx CD-ROM attachment. The games before were just upgrades from the turbochip with a few cutscenes and improved sounds. This CD incorporated all of that with a good storyline and the use of semi-automated cutscenes and voice acting. But, that coupled with simple yet immersive gameplay and a decent size quest (for it's day) made it a winner. It had enough different qualities to stand apart from all the Zelda clones of it's day. Bottom line: a great piece of CD-ROM history that put NEC on the map (albeit briefly here in the States).

  • The First True RPG in America! 1990

1 of my all time favorite old school Role Playing Game from 1989-90. It was the last Turbo Duo Big Rpg in America well there was more good Rpg's that were released on the PC Engine, Turbo Duo that had good voice actors on a CD Rom disc with real sounds & a really good story. But in fact because of this game it is still popular in Japan. Now you can find it released on PS2-PSP. But I think we need to see more of Y's in America its long overdue for a comeback!.But this is by far the Rarest one out there. And the coolest one ever!.NEC was the best back in the day 89-95

  • The best RPG for the best system in the world !!!

I have no words to describe such a perfect RPG. The game play is smooth and easy. The fun factor y 1st class. The graphics are awesome and beautiful. And the very best of this game is the soundtrack. The music is so incredible, full of rock tunes and adventure medieval tunes that blow you away. The cinemas are excelent and the story line is very original. If you don't have Ys book 1 & 2, get yours today. You don't be disapointed.
