I dearly love this book. Being born and raised in the South and having a grandfather who literally spoke like Uncle Remus, I was immediately transported to my childhood when I turned the pages of this book! I wish every child could grow up with these delightful tales read by someone who could speak the language of the Deep South!

The complete tales of Uncle Remus is a collection of stories passed on from a lovable ex-slave character to a young white boy in a post-civil war southern United States. The reason I was interested in purchasing a copy of this book for my personal library is because I have taken an interest in the preservation of its stories. I first heard of them because they were the main focus of an almost unheard of Disney movie called “The Song of the South.” The stories are marvelously clever and are mainly focused around a true trickster character, Brer Rabbit and his wily ways of getting through life. These stories have almost completely passed into oblivion, but they certainly deserve preservation, and a place in the modern world of thought. They hold great historic and entertainment value as well. It has taken me a long time to find a copy of my own and it is my wish to keep it preserved for as long as possible and fight to give it the rightful respect that it deserves. There are many things that I enjoy greatly about the book. As I have mentioned and would like to reiterate the stories are tremendously clever, and are still applicable to modern life. There is great historical value in the text in it’s themes of racial relations in a post-civil war southern United States, but the book is generally a stupendous anthology of fables. The only complaint I have with the book is that a large bulk of it is written in southern dialect, which can occasionally be difficult to understand. This book would be a great addition to anyone’s library. It certainly shows a great kind of philosophy that would make the world a much better place if applied properly, and should truly be preserved forever as a monument not only to children’s literature, but also as a glimpse into an unbiased view on American history.Read full review
