An excellent HD recorder that will not disapoint.

This is a quality product, even though it came out 10 years ago in 2010, and it is still a market leader. HD channels, even though 1080i (not 1080p) are excellent, but the SD channels could be better. Upscaling in my view not as good as the Humax PVR-930T (Freeview Recorder), although SD quality is down to the broadcaster, but upscaling from 576i to 1080i being passible. It's worth taking into account programmes on BBC1 HD are in fact HD, some being upscaled from 576i SD (ITV1 HD label upscaled progs to let you know). All in all this is an easy to use and professional recorder. It’s stylish, operates with no noise and is packed with more features than you’d expect. If you are in the market for a HD recorder, without high cost Sky costs, this is for you!

  • Top critical review

    I not a good item

I think it is a reckon unit as it did not come in a manufacturer's packing. It is difficult to use and can't arrange the channels. The remote is not very responsive. Very disappointed as my friend has one that works much better.

  • Humax Forest HDR

I bought one of these new a few years ago to enable TV reception in a remote place. I now have another as backup to terrestrial TV via another Humax PVR. Both have been very easy to setup and my older one has been very reliable. Some of the features are a bit quirky in use even if you pause live TV then restart, subtitles suddenly appear. They can be removed by pressing the exit button. Saving files to a usb stick or external hard drive is a bit difficult but can be done. The good thing about the Humax range is there is plenty of advice on forums so you shouldn't be stuck for long unless something has failed. The hard disk is easy to change should there be a problem or you want to upgrade.

  • Good box, poor remote

The box itself is fine. I have a few niggles with the menu layouts after being used to a sky box, especially the favourites aspect. However overall it is far superior to sky in my opinion. The major let down is the remote which has limited range (despite new batteries), does not like operating unless the box door is open (I removed the plastic film which the previous owner had left in place) and the OK button usually requires several presses to operate the box. This seems to be a common failing with the humax system. Some of the buttons are fiddly and small for average fingers as well. Would I buy another one - yes - but I would ensure the remote was better first. Humax could learn a lesson from sky remotes.
