Folliwing on from where Brookside the TV series finished, 'Unfinished Business' is the first in a series of feature-length specials. Drug dealer in hiding Terry Gibson wants revenge on Tim O'Leary and Steve Murray. Gibson hatches a plan to get Tim and Steve to go to a remote Welsh farmhouse where he can do what he wants without fear of being found out. However Tim and Steve are not going to go quietly and the scene is set for a showdown.

    A simple, engaging story brought to an exciting conclusion

    I'd been meaning to get this film since 2003, so it literally was a case of unfinished business for me. All these years I'd been hoping that Tim and Steve might get revenge. Now we can see what happened, even though it transpired that their target was out for revenge too. This was made in 2003 (not 1982 as your title suggests), but there are references to topics relevant today. We see Abby having to deal with misogyny, then striking back using a mobile phone. So from the set up, we're rooting for all the main protagonists. One sad point, I realised after watching that the Director Adrian Vitoria had passed away during the intervening years. How poignant to watch him laugh and talk in the extra features.

    BROOKSIDE'S SWAN SONG-UNFINISHED BUSINESS

    As a keen Brookside viewer since its inception, I was keen to see what is the final instalment of the show, there were plans for future DVD releases, but these have been shelved since Phil Redmond's Mersey TV was sold off. It was exciting stuff, with a very good climax and a fitting farewell for a show that lasted 21 years, before being axed, probably because the hard hitting issues that were formerly 'Brookside Only', became increasingly covered by other soaps. As Eastenders, Coronation Street & Emmerdale added extra episodes, I think people lost the time to watch Brookside on Channel 4, which was a shame. Another good part of the DVD was the extras which included actors' summaries of their time on Brookside, as well as seeing how the special effects were enacted.
