My review title sums up Street Fighter. It was just one of those movies that was so bad that it was so good. The plot was nothing like I and other Street Fighter fans was expecting. Trying not to think it was based on the game somewhat helps. There is something, or rather, somebody that shines and makes this movie worth it. Raul Julia. His performance as M Bison, his lines made this a great movie to add to my collection. No this was nicer the blockbuster they had hoped it would be but it is still a great bad movie to add to your collection.

this the worst Van Damme movie I have ever seen; endless machine gun battles, endless shootings, almost put me to sleep. Van Damme looked better when he was on steroids. Raul Julia is totally miscast. Take this CD and burn it.

If you are a hardcore fan of the Streetfighter games then you may find something to complain about with regard to this movie, if only because you don't get a full backstory of the characters represented; barring that, however, there is little to complain about as there are exciting fight sequences and mayhem and the characters all pretty much correspond with their video game counterparts. Van Damme does a pretty good turn as Colonel Guile, as does Kylie Minogue as Cammy - for what little you see of her. The least fitting of all the actors is arguably the most talented of them all, as Raul Julia performs as M. Bison- Mr. Julia brings a subtlety to the character that fans may not necessarily agree with as he is not as cruel or as invincible as he is made out to be in the game, but Hollywood will take its liberties with just about anything so...there you have it. Because this is a movie based on a videogame franchise, you'll have to allow certain elements in order to move the movie along, but overall, I found it to be a fun, action-packed film that was worth the time it took to watch it. I bought this movie because I had seen it when it first came out and remembered it to be entertaining; plus, having been a fan of the game series I had to check it out for myself to see if it could be as good as the later animated cartoons that preceded and followed it. In my opinion, it was- in some ways better because I prefer live action over animated presentations. In short, I would recommend this as the perfect popcorn Saturday matinee movie for kids as well as adults. Enjoy!Read full review
Personally, I like this Street Fighter movie. A lot of people make fun of this film because of the corny dialogue, and also because of the fact that most of the actors and actresses portraying the Street Fighter II characters are a different nationality that the actual characters in the game. For example, Jean Claude Van Damme is really from Belgian. Yet he plays the American military hero, Guile. Also, Guile (in the game) has a wild hairstyle, which he always combs as one of his winning poses. Basically, Van Damme looks nothing like Guile, aside from the military clothes he wears near the end of the film. Some parts of the game's story is changed in the movie too. For example (if I remember correctly), in the game, Guile's best friend Charlie was killed. And as a winning pose, Guile holds up Charlie's military/dog tag. But in the movie, they turned his friend Charlie into Blanka, the Brazilian beast-like creature with green skin. I don't remember Blanka EVER formerly being Charlie in the game. Unless I never noticed or paid attention to details. But personally, I feel that all of that is minor, insignificant complaints. It was still a well made movie. And they made interesting use for the characters. Such as E. Honda and Balrog working with Chun Li as news reporters etc. Sure, I would have liked for the characters to all be more dark, mysterious and badass than they were in the movie. But it's still a decent movie. Also note that this is actor Raul Julia's final movie before he died. In fact, he had stomach cancer even during the making of the movie. And he died even before it hit theatres from what I remember reading. So this is a piece of history to own. Raul Julia's final performance. All in all, I liked this much more than SOME video game based films (such as Super Mario Bros. That was an abomination). This isn't as bad as SO many people say it is. And I'm proud to own it on DVD. They also made a Street Fighter The Movie GAME, based on this film (an arcade version, and also a version on the Playstation and Sega Saturn). Where they digitalized the actors and made them look real (kinda like the way the characters looked in Mortal Kombat).Read full review
Street Fighter is a pretty decent action movie I was dissapointed that it wasn't like the game but.... I still liked it. It was funny, and action packed, with explosions and fight scenes, and all the original SF characters made it on screen. I don't like the number of Good Guys to Bad Guys ratio, but that doesn't really matter. This movie should be enjoyed for what it is, mindless fun, with some action mixed in. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: If you can get past the fact that this really has nothing to do with the Video game, this movie is very fun to watch, might not be worth owning, but catch it next time it's on TV.
