Great concert
When Oldfield toured the US, I didn't go. My (now) husband did. He put this DVD on his wishlist years ago , unfortunately after it was out of stock. I've been looking for it for years, and was thrilled to finally find a copy I could afford. Hubby loves it!

What is unique about this DVD
Great live performance, but you can direct the action on stage from your armchair, selecting the camera angle and view of the stage throughout the set if you have a DVD player with an 'angle' button. I used a Sony DVP - NS78H with component out for picture and audio out to a serious Hi Fi.

Mike Oldfield, live performance at Wembley arena.
I suppose I'm a bit biased about this particular DVD owing to the fact that it fits into the "I was there" category of things. I was fortunate enough to have gone to this particular concert, filmed at the Wembley Arena back in 1979.Some days prior to this tour starting, I remember being in the Bayshill pub in Cheltenham, a very rustic and real place of liquid refreshment, with an excellent selection of ales and an equally excellent selection of local regulars who gave the place its own unique charm. I was chatting to a guy called Phil Beer who at the time formed one half of a folk-rock duo with Paul Downes. Both were and are very talented musicians, Phil being an accomplished player of Guitar, Mandolin and Violin. He told me he's been invited to play guitar as part of the line-up of a ... I suppose I'm a bit biased about this particular DVD owing to the fact that it fits into the "I was there" category of things. So, with a friend of mine, I popped along to see it. I hadn't realised until very recently that the gig had been filmed at the time and that a DVD of the performance was available. It was only after a friend of mine, called Dan Fear, himself a talented blues guitar player I used to work with in Banbury, happened to mention to me that he was a big Oldfield fan and that he had a DVD of a performance of his, filmed back in 1979 that I realised it was the one I went to. I borrowed Dan's copy initially and, after watching it, decided to buy my own copy on Ebay. It's a well-filmed piece of nostalgia for me personally, showing the complete works of both "Incantations" and also "Tubular Bells", making it a 2-DVD set. For anyone who is into Mike Oldfield's work, I'd say this a must-have addition to any set of his works. It's also an amusing reminder of what apalling dress sense and hair styles predominated at that time and leaves one thinking incredulously "Oh GOD did we REALLY wear trousers that tight?!!" Recorded in 1979 at the Wembley Conference Centre as part of the exposed tour, this DVD contains the full gig. For this tour, a 50 piece ensemble orchestra were used and with a road crew of 25 requiring 3 articulated trucks to transport the shows hardware, it was indeed a spectacular show. Newly re-mastered and digitally enhanced the audio on the release is of the highest quality and there is multi angle viewing options allowing the viewer a unique insight into the time when Oldfield was at the peak of his musical and visual abilities serving up spectacular show after spectacular show. Fantastic concert video, which includes Incantations and Tubular Bells 1 - multi-angle, too. Filmed at Wembley in 1979. Music is still stunning and great performance from Mike Oldfield & backing musicians. Hair & clothes of the audience really shows how long ago this was!
