The first thing you notice about this lens is its sheer mass. It is a hulking piece of glass and steel totaling in excess of six pounds. Shooting with it without a monopod requires the fitness of a young Schwarzy. What you get is almost unbeatable for the price, though. The range is amazing and let me cover an entire soccer field with ease, always filling the frame with my subject. The lens is not super-fast, but during daylight outdoor sport shootings I would rarely go below f6.3 anyway. The focus is sharp, quick and I was always able to get the shot I wanted. I got this lens when I started covering semi-professionally a youth soccer league and the customer has been quite happy with the result. Considering the alternatives, for a lens of this generation this is the only option for a rugged lens that you can use in any weather and that gives you the flexibility of the 150-600. The other options are either much pricier or less durable for the environment I would need to work in. I am quite happy with my purchase. Did I mention you need to get a monopod?Read full review

Extremely fast (for its size) and confident and quick autofocus tracking abilities make this an incredible all-rounder zoom lens for the amateur wildlife photographer. I've only just begun to scratch the surface of this hobby and I am very happy I took the dive and went for something as high quality as this Sigma Sports product. The lens is really heavy and would definitely require regular monopod use. Once I figured out some filter issues, I was able to hone in on my preferences when using the lens, and have only seen extremely clear images and beautiful colors. I look forward to exploring what birds or astrophotography settings would look beautiful under a zoom like this!

Well if you have this lens on order just know that the wait is well worth the It.! As soon as I got the lens the first thing I noticed was the build quality is 100% (FIRST CLASS) . Sigma's new lens line up is nothing more then amazing. This lens went right to work as soon as I received it.I took this baby out to a basketball game. The arena has perfect lighting for TV broadcasting. I used a nikon D3s body and set the settings @ 4000 ISO, and a shutter speed of 800, that gave me a F.11-F.8 lens setting (just perfect). Now let's see how this baby focuses up.(amazingly fast) Just like the big $$$ glass from nikon. Let's just say if you have this lens on order, good for you for waiting! You won't be disappointed. And if you don't put your name one the order list and you will love this newly designed lens line from Sigma. First class lens line from Sigma. This is the perfect lens, on the market at the perfect time. great for full frame camera bodys. Thank you at Sigma ! "YOU DID THIS LENS WRIGHT" The price for this lens is perfect for the first class build quality.Read full review

Best lens under $4 K. If you roam around and want the best possible IQ without having to swap lenses, this is the ONLY lens. It is heavy, but having ONE lens to cover all that range is worth it for such IQ. This lens took the place of three lenses in my kit, so you can say that it is far cheaper and lighter. I own a Nikon 200-500 and a Tamron 150-600 G2, Neither one delivers FAST focus on the D500 or D850, The bigma SPORT delivers. Far better than I expected. It is heavier than the other big zooms I mentioned, not by much, yet the performance makes it worth it! If it was stolen I would buy it again. My only issue with this lens is that the Nikon TC 1.4E III does not work with it. All else is glorious.

Sigma is now dedicated to producing top-quality lenses, and gives Nikon and Canon great competition. This lens is a good example. Be sure you get the SPORT model for best IQ, not the contemporary or Art. This lens is fairly heavy, but way less than the Nikon 500mm prime I usually drag around and hand-hold. Construction and weather-sealing are top-quality. I'm very tired of dragging the 300 and 500 all over the world, and hope and pray this lens is the solution (so does my husband, who is usually the Sherpa). This is a lens that requires fine-tuning to match it to your camera. This is a tedious process, and time-consuming process - but well worth it. There are other pros that fine-tune lenses as part of their business, and I'd highly recommend using one. EJ Peiker on Naturescapes.net is one and the guy I used. Lens went for "quite ok" to "tack-sharp" with his 6 hours of work for $200. Sandy RRead full review

This is an excellent lens. Images are very sharp. As everyone has said it is heavy at 6+ lbs and it is really well made. Very solid. The zoom ring is a little cumbersome, but I've found that just pulling and pushing the the lens to zoom works very well. I've had good luck with locking AF onto fast moving birds with it.

This Sigma lens is HEAVY !!! Now that's out of the way it's everything a lens should be at this price point and more. Mounted on the support of your choice it should impress even the most discerning shooter. This lens definitely took my photography to the next level and should do the same for you. Stop thinking about it and just buy it !!!
