One thing to double check before ordering, MAKE SURE your computer will accept an NVMe M.2 drive. i did before ordering mine, and it is a decision I am thrilled to have made. It works great, is blister fast, and has not given me a single issue at all. A word of caution here, if you are switching from a regular platter type hard drive, you MUST perform a clean install of windows in order for it this to work. I tried several attempts from a SATA drive clone to get it to boot and I kept getting an INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE error. Fair warning!!! This comes with a 3 years manufacturer warranty, so rest easy with this purchase. by the time this fails, a whole new technology will be in effect, I think. If you are switching from a regular hard drive or even a SSD sata drive, the speed is just incredible for how quick it works. I have not run any benchmarks other than with HDClone, so take it with a grain of salt. The SATA M.2 SSD i just replaced only tested at 540 MB sequential read speed, this one tested at 1.6GB sequential read speed. If I had the money to get a new motherboard and a second drive, I would RAID0 the 2 and it would double the storage and be significantly faster than a single. Enjoy your purchase, I know I am.Read full review

The HP EX900 uses the Silicon Motion SM2263XT DRAM-less NVMe controller with Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology. DRAM-less being the keyword here. Because of the speed, most SSD´s will write data to it's internal cache (a.k.a. Drive's RAM) before actually writing it to the NAND memory chip. DRAM-less drives means that they lack the memory chip where it’s data is temporarily stored.. This is a cost saving measure, thus, you are able to get this drive at a significant discount vs the leading brand. What this mambo-jambo means to you is that this disk WILL USE YOUR SYSTEM'S RAM as a temp cache. So, if you buy a 500GB drive, you'll need an additional 500MB of RAM to work with it, A 256GB drive will need an extra 256MB of ram. This might not be apparent at first, but you'll notice that windows explorer will start to 'eat' a lot of it. Under heavy I/O operations, using very large files, this SSD can easily go above the 1GB mark on RAM usage -- via Windows Explorer, therefore I would recommend against it if you have less than 8GB of RAM. Having said that, it's a decent unit that delivers on the advertised read/write speeds in real life usage. I decided to use it as a secondary mass-storage device, since I'm mounting it on a PCI card. If you are looking to replace your main C: drive, you might want to look for one that has an integranted DRAM chipRead full review

I installed Win 10 (pro, 64 bit) on this NVMe drive. It was a bit tricky to get the install to work (had to 1st disconnect my other SSD and HD drives before it would work). Once installed, I found it to work well and I've had no issues booting into Windows 10 from this M.2 (NVMe) drive. Boot time is fast, but not noticeably faster than what I was seeing on my old SSD drive; could be due to a configuration, but I don't think so. Since I am using this mainly as a drive for the operating system, I can't speak much to the read/write speeds. I am using a few SSDs and a single 1TB HD drive for my games and programs. If I had found a larger SSD drive for the same price I probably would have gone with that, but it is nice to have this connected directly on the motherboard. That allows me to have 4 other (SSD and HD) drives in my case. One small complaint... HP does not provide software for management of the NVMe drive. For the most part it's not needed, but it would be nice if they made an app available for download (many SSD manufacturers do provide an app for managing the SSD drives).Read full review

Inexpensive drives we use only for low disk write applications & I cannot speak to longevity. Probably 5-10 in use mostly for system drives in appliance type PC's Seemed best bang per GB at the time.

Have had this in a Windows 7 system as BOOT drive for over 1.5 years with not a problem. Have seen a lot of negative reviews including blaming HP THIS IS MADE BY MULTIPOINTE so stop blaming HP also learn how to handle electronics PROPER ANTI-STATIC HANDLING you will get longer live out of your items. SO STOP BLAMING THE PRODUCT FOR YOUR OWN IGNORANCE. Great product and value would buy again when needed.

After installing it in an HP T540, Windows 10 was quickly written and updates were quick. However, updating this HP on board firmware will prove to be challenging.
