This Team Reinert Tamiya TT-01e radio controlled 4wd on road racing truck kit is designed as a spec class racing truck, and perfect for racing on a budget. The kit comes with a speed controller and a spec motor of the brushed variety that must be used in the class. Upgrading the motor, installing different pinion gears and/or using a better battery other than a 2s LiPo battery is illegal and may be grounds for disqualification. These zero tolerance rules not only keeps the racing action at lower speeds for newer drivers, but it also reduces initial costs. One upgrade, however, that is allowed at my track and recommended, I would assume, is the Fast Eddie ball bearing kit, which even so only adds $20 to the bill. Definitely a good upgrade if allowed of course, check with your local track to make sure. Now the bad part... Unfortunately, this is not a complete ready to run vehicle, as a transmitter, receiver, battery, charger, paint and tire glue is not included but is required to get the vehicle operational. Depending on what route you go, this could significantly increase the cost.. in fact doubling or tripling the initial purchase price. That being said, this is still a very low cost way to get into racing, as a modified 4wd buggy kit can cost 3 or 4 times as much as this and you still have to buy everything and more you need for this kit. I've been rambling on about the racing aspect of this kit, but it also makes an awesome basher! Throw some oil-filled touring car shocks on it, a brushless system with a 3s lipo and an aluminum drive shaft and you have a killer on road touring car... well, truck. lol Regardless of which way you go, I think it's a great kit and the perfect way to get into racing if you're on a budget. Overall, 10/10 would recommend.Read full review

The car comes with "friction" shocks (not oil filled) and tall sidewall tires (no inserts allowed in the racing class), so it's a bouncy, wild ride. Fun if you like that sort of thing, like I do. The TCS racing class is "box stock" plus bearings. I got into it because of the lower cost, but was impressed with the speed:cost ratio. The body is complex and consists of four pieces. Plan a while longer than normal for completing this task. Also takes at least two Tamiya polycarbonate spray paint cans to cover it (or better yet get a cheaper brand with a larger can).
