For recording high-quality crystal clear audio for the movies you shoot from your HDSLR camera or small camcorder, use the VideoMic GO On-Camera Shotgun Microphone from Rode. It draws power from the 3.5 mm jack of the camera is connected to, which means you do not have to use additional batteries to power this microphone. However, it will not work with those cameras that do not supply power from their microphone jacks. The Rycote Lyre shock mount of this Rode microphone enables protection from bumps and vibrations. An overall weight of just 2.6 oz. keeps your camera lightweight. This enables you to shoot for longer durations when holding the camera in your hands.

    Great mic for use with my Nikon dslr camera! Love that it uses the camera battery for power and is easy to attach. Tons better than in-camera mic. Works best less than 15' away for me. If you're on a budget, like I was, this does a great job!
