This is a fondly remembered film, and I was very happy to find it on DVD at last. However, the actual product is a crashing disappointment, for this reason: This is the single worst DVD release I have ever seen, with picture quality that looks like a VHS dupe from a TV broadcast, where the tape has been badly stored. The picture quality is not as good as many public-domain DVD titles I've purchased. Given that this was a prestigious production in its day, and one of the most popular movies in Britain at the time, this is a crashing disappointment, and I urge you to buy it only if you can overlook the dreadful, dreadful picture quality.
The movie is mediocre, but I was expecting this. The problem was the quality of the DVD image. It looked like it had been filmed on a video camera aimed at a TV screen. The worst quality DVD I have ever purchased. It was so cheap that I’m not going to bother returning it, but whoever sold it should stop selling it.
A wonderful movie for its time ! I saw it years ago & was captivated.. a bit dated now but still enjoyable & thrilled that this dvd was in good reproduction ( as many reviews were not happy with the quality ) Very pleased ..
