Additional informationCompiled by the German label Repertoire, Ciao Ciao Bambina is a two-disc, 40-track set that explores Italian pop music of the '60s and '70s. While cantautori like Francesco De Gregori, Fabrizio De André, and Lucio Battisti aren't included here, much of the music that preceded (and in many cases, inspired) them is in fact represented. Which means that Domenico Modugno has two songs (the only artist to whom this honor is bestowed), including the famous title track, and Luigi Tenco, Patty Pravo, Umberto Tozzi, and Adriano Celentano (though the latter has his "24 Mila Baci" covered by Little Tony), among others, also help to fill out the tracks. There are, inevitably albeit unfortunately, enough of the 1970s' super-produced, disco-tinged pop songs included on Ciao Ciao Bambina to tarnish the Italian rock & roll variations of the other songs included, but even these are limited, both in dancefloor-pulsing drums and in number. The compilation is thus a rather fun one, and a good -- though not complete -- look into Italian popular music of the '60s and '70s. ~ Marisa Brown
