Adds a significant amount of enjoyment to Lionel Legacy trains.
I'm new to O-scale. I started with a loop of Lionel Fastrack, an 80 watt transformer, and a Legacy GP-35. The locomotive ran well with just the transformer, but reading the manual and watching a few videos on YouTube convinced me I needed something more capable to really enjoy all the features built into the locomotive, so I got the 990 Legacy command set: one base, one power supply, and one wireless handheld controller. The 990 goes together easily; I was "ready" to run in about 10 minutes. I said "ready" because the handheld looks complicated and a little intimidating. I ended up watching the YouTube how-to video on my iPad next to the layout so I could easily practice what the video was showing. With a little practice the handheld is easy and fun to use. The 990 is an excellent way to run a Legacy locomotive. The wireless feature means you can walk around the layout controlling your train. The rechargeable batteries (included) means no need to keep changing batteries. As I've expanded my layout, I've added some Fastrack switches. These can also be controlled from the handheld - there is no need for an old fashioned control panel, and switches can be operated from anywhere near the layout.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

For model train enthusiasts that own and especially run model trains, you really shouldn’t be without one of these pieces of equipment. As far as being modern technology for the running of model trains, this is right up there with the adage as good as it gets for remote control systems, that is until they come out with the next remote system but for now, this is it people. I mean to tell you, we’re talking running multiple trains at one time on different tracks of course, not sure how many, because I haven’t gotten to that point in the use of this piece of equipment yet, but with the standard transformers of yesteryear, really. Total Control in Your Hand
For the best control of your layout, this is the set to have. The main LCD screen lets you know what your selections are and the current speed of the train. A tiny LCD screen on each key shows what functions are currently active for that key. It makes the most of limited space. Hookup is very simple: one wire!
