Excellent British gangster movie.
This is a great movie in my opinion. The story and characters are interesting and there’s some good action scenes. I’m a fan of Guy Ritchie’s movies about the British underground. If you like Snatch or Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels then you’ll like RocknRolla.

If you’re not completely overwhelmed yet, there’s a good chance you will be as even more characters are introduced into the fold, including an untrustworthy accountant (Thandie Newton) and a pair of seemingly indestructible Russian thugs. Still, the story is never so complex that you won’t understand what’s going on. Those familiar with Ritchie’s work know that his films operate in a Seinfeldian fashion – with several smaller stories converging into one big story the further along it gets – and this time around, Ritchie doesn't waste any time in putting the gears into motion. The film is also just as funny, action-packed and thrilling as “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch,” but it’s not nearly as hyper-stylized. That isn’t to say that “RocknRolla” isn’t stamped with Ritchie’s trademark visual style, but he’s clearly matured in the way it’s utilized. There are no more fancy camera tricks just for the sake of looking cool, but rather more unique sequences (like one where he uses onscreen text to relay a muted discussion) that don't feel as out of place. All the glitter and gloss in the world could be applied to the final product and it still wouldn’t make "RocknRolla" as appealing as its eccentric cast of characters does. This movie was boring from the begining, but does get more action the more you watch.I rented it hoping that with all the great actors it would be more better, but I felt dissapointed.Hope this helps you decide.Thanks for reading! :)

RocknRolla Rocks!... A Bona-Fide Crime Classic!
How do you attempt to review a movie which is, for lack of better description: Flawless. Guy Richie's "RocknRolla" is a bona fide crime classic. A great Guy Ritchie film in every sense of the word. Finally, here's a movie that lacks all the nuance flourishes of his previous films without sacrificing all of their strengths. The result is a familiar, fresh yet hip crime comedy that is at once tragic, funny, violent and downright intoxicating. Even if you don't like the subject-matter, the characters, the over-the-top dialogue and hyper-stylized cinematography, the trendy composition, the abundantly different lighting schemes, unusual editing, the nuanced performances, the ultra-British sheek of it all, the ridiculousness of the humor, the referential quality ... How do you attempt to review a movie which is, for lack of better description: Flawless. Guy Richie's "RocknRolla" is a bona fide crime classic. A great Guy Ritchie film in every sense of the word. This is a true original. A triumph of style, direction, acting and writing. Perhaps this decade's "Trainspotting". And yet, RocknRolla is vastly different from those Pulp Fiction/Lock Stock/Transporter-esque movies. For one, it’s got a clever sensibility and humor which is totally its own. RocknRolla is immediately distinguishable from all films of its kind (Much like Carol Reed's "The Third Man" is immediately recognizable when you see any frame of it, this universe is undeniably that of the movie.) On the whole it’s rather difficult to place RocknRolla. As a genre film I'd compare it to a real-estate drama like "Glengarry Glen Ross", more than I would to English crime thrillers like "Snatch" or American dramas like "Fight Club". This is like Glengarry Glen Ross on an acid trip, while channeling a heroin overdose while climbing to the top of Mt. Everest and back again. The film is always entertaining as it excites with a seemingly endless array of side-plots. Moments which serve as forks in the road which may appear to lead nowhere in particular, but likely enough, evolve into informing the construct of this dramatic universe. There are standout performances here, though they are not overdone, they remain within the mood of the story. Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Mark Strong, Jeremy Piven, Chris Bridges, Thandie Newton, Idris Elba, Gemma Arterton and Tom Hardy lead an awesome cast who all perform greatly. Not to mention a funny, painful, mesmerizing and electrifying performance from Toby Kebbell as "Johnny", a crack-head musician who's more complicated than he appears. His monologue about a box of cigarettes as he plays the piano is the stuff of legend. RocknRolla is the sort of movie that you're exhilarated yet confused while watching. You may even find yourself drifting at times though you're surprisingly mesmerized at what you're watching and hearing. You soon come to realize that you've seen a masterpiece. I find that most masterpieces are like that, they creep up on you without you really knowing. In the end, you'll drive home realizing how great the movie really was.

Americans will notice a few actors on the screen, but ALL of them deliver outstanding performances in another gritty, gangster movie that no one can direct better than Guy Ritchie. If you're comparing it to Snatch the premise is the same as is with Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels. It is unquestionably, though, an evolution in Ritchie's prowess as a director and writer. The most notable gem of this film is its script. The dialogue is far more poetic than previous films and surely captivates the audiences' mind with every line. Personally, I think this is Ritchie's best work, but it did take a repeat viewing to affirm this. Now I'm hooked on the ...
