    Great Upgrade!

If you own a Rickenbacker 4003 bass, do not hesitate to upgrade the stock bridge to the Hipshot bridge. No surgery required, so you will not have to modify your Ricky in anyway. It gives you added sustain along with adjustable string height and much easier intonation than the original bridge can offer. (You can always reinstall the factory bridge if you need to). Go for it! UPDATE: I just played a festival down in California and when I got my bass out of the case, three of the four saddles had drooped at a 45 degree angle. Apparently this is an on-going problem with this unit probably due to poor tooling. My luthier is going to modify it so it will not happen in the future. Make sure you bring the necessary allen wrench with you wherever you go!

  • A truly needed improvement!

I have played Rickenbacker basses( 4001 and 4003) for 37 years now. I love the sound and the look, but the hardware can be archaic. I have a late ‘70’s 4001 that had tail lift and so-so intonation. I bought one of these( not cheap, but worth it) and installed it myself. No tail lift, individual adjustment of each strings action, side to side adjustment, far more range to get the intonation spot on. They even include extra screws to help with intonation range ( which I used on the G string) It takes all the fuss and compromise out of the bridge.

  • Genuine Rickenbacker Hipshot Tailpiece

This tailpiece is one of the best I have ever owned. It fits the Ric beautifully, It improved the feel with incredible sustain. A far cry from Rickenbacker's saddle design and the entire system is as smooth, if not smoother than Badass which doesn't quite fit a Ric. With the Badass, one has to modify some kind of molding for it to seat correctly, and then needs to bend a string over whereas with the Hipshot, no modifications are required and that in itself makes this bridge a valuable asset. I am sure all of you will disagree with this reviewer is the lack of the muting system. On occasion, I have played tunes that have actually called for it. Not many but It was. A little sacrifice for enormous flexibility, sustain and convenience? What the heck.

  • Nice upgrade.

Intonation on one string was tough to dial in. They give you 2 different length screws to choose. One was too long and the other is slightly too short. I would have liked to seen a few more turns into the saddle at the adjustment point. Maybe I'll cut a little off the long screw and use that. Time will tell. Way better than the POS Rickenbacker bridge.

  • Great rework of a classic bridge. Watch out for the screws

I love everything about this bridge except for the provided mounting screws which shattered. the tips of the screws broke off in the body of the bass. Maybe a higher quality of mounting screw should be provided with the bridge. These seem to have been aluminum screws. a material too soft for the function.
