Certainly not as substantial as the old "school room" paper cutters of the 50's and 60's, but a good cutter for general use around the house. The plastic paper size guide was not as precise, but I am able to use the grid on the table to align the paper. The paper holder works in conjunction with the blade and I found that by slowly moving the blade down so the holder can engage the paper, then using a very quick downward plunge with the blade achieves a clean cut.
