    Unfortunately the shaft is machined wrong! The splines are too narrow on the top/ wrong pressure angle! it kills transfer case splined sleeve very quick! I can't use repair shaft, because there was too much backlash between the shaft and the transfer case splined sleeve. In picture you can see the original BMW X5 drive shaft splines compared to repair shaft.

    Shaft arrived in good time to the UK. Nicely machined,the diameter of the splines and profile was perfect,diameter of the body that slides Into the prop was a tight fit but one the coating was removed to prep for welding it was a very good almost airtight fit. Hopefully it lasts but see no reason why not. A++++

    Perfect

    I cut the end off of my old driveshaft and welded this one in. It was a simple and easy fix, anybody could do it. If you don’t have a welder, take it to a muffler shop, buy a guy lunch and you are golden. I never have to worry about getting stranded again. The hardest part is taking down the skid shield. When you reinstall you have to take off the shift lever. 13mm nut. Too easy. Great product

    Received in the mail today was very impressed with the quality. Took the drive shaft and the new spline section to the engineer an the had the old shaft cut off and the new part welded on in less than half an hour. A quick paint job and drying then I reassembled it very easy job it fitted up really nice highly impressed with the quality of the product. Car back together and driving perfectly.

  • Don't replace transfer case.

    I was told I needed a transfer case and a front driveshaft. Sounded logical until one realizes that BMW simply made the spline portion of the front driveshaft too short...3/4 of an inch contact. The female splines in the transfer case are open and much deeper. This part works to both allow you to use existing transfer case and front driveshaft. It is machined so well that it compressed air in the driveshaft. Buy this one. I have seen other similar parts that don't have the length of this one. This is a high quality piece of hardened steel. I have taken the time and effort to recommend this part because I hope to help you out. It is nice in this day and time to get what you pay for. My X5 is happy and so am I. David Allen, Lakeland, FL

    Nice product that saves lots of money. I am a hands on guy and did the welding myself. It took me a few hours over several days to remove, repair and replace. We got a snowstorm just as I finished and the snow plows boxed me in. My first test of the repair was to pull out and over the 18 inch snow ridges. No problem then went off road to ice fish in a pond. I have lots of confidence I'm done with that issue
