I bought this because of the Century brand and the 5 year warranty . I have had several of the Ctek brand ones fail in the warranty period and just out of the warranty which by the way is only 2 years on the Ctek 10 amp which is what I would be drawing a direct comparison too . The smaller Cteks ( 7Amps and less ) have a 5 year warranty but the point is moot because this century also has 8 and 1 amp power settings to allow for smaller batteries . The Ctek brand has been around for at least 20 years now and they continue to have the same problems with the faulty " Mode " switch which renders the charger useless ! And of course spare parts to allow for repairs are not sold for the Ctek's !

This charger does perform well and has saved a dying battery saving me money. Is it good value for money? Well I do think chargers in general are too expensive, I only picked this brand as I know it well compared to others out there. Quality seems to be pretty good and hardy but I found the plastic moulding around the clamps do slip off when you try to remove them from battery terminals if they are tight on. Not a deal breaker but annoying, at this price it should be better. The power cord is a decent length and charger cables are ok. You get clamps and ring lugs which are interchangable depending on your requirements, pretty handy it you need it. The size of this charger makes it very usable in plenty of tight situations, you can rest it anywhere around the engine bay and pretty quiet. Selectable between 1, 6 and 12 amp depending on the size of battery makes this charger quite versatile, for recreational to motorcycles to larger vehicles. Selecting the battery type, SMF, AMG or GEL may require some research as not all batteries state clearly what type they are. Before I purchased this I had no idea about the different types but once you work it out it becomes clearer. It would be great if it could somehow auto select the battery type but I guess you can't have everything hey. This charger has 9 charging functions from full charge to maintain and even repairing which is pretty handy if you have an old battery, it might squeeze a bit more life out of it. My first use displayed the battery as faulty but I kept trying untill it finally came back to life so I was pretty happy about that. Not sure how long the battery will last afterwards but it went from dead to usable. Overall, I think it is a handy little unit to have, and I am pleased so far with my purchase. Do I reccomend it, yes I would for home use but definately shop around for a sale or checkout the model down from this, the 8 amp version is cheaper, but slower obviously, with same features. There are a few dirrent brands out there but didnt have time ti research them as I have never heard if them and Century just spoke to me I guess, happy so far.Read full review
