About this product

Product Information

M. Night Shyamalan's THE VILLAGE finds the renowned writer-director crafting a suspenseful story of a small community whose inhabitants are plagued by fear of the unknown forest that surrounds them. For years, they have kept a truce with mysterious creatures in the woods by vowing never to breach a clearly defined border. However, when a young man (Joaquin Phoenix) becomes determined to explore the nearby towns, his actions are met with menacing consequences.Shyamalan continues his remarkable streak of entrancing and entertaining thrillers (THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE, SIGNS) with THE VILLAGE. A meticulous filmmaker, Shyamalan displays his penchant for setting up a fascinating atmosphere in every aspect of the movie, from its distinctive color scheme to its intentionally genteel dialogue to its outstanding cinematography, courtesy of Roger Deakins. Renowned cast members Phoenix, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, and Adrien Brody are excellent, but the true standout is Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of director Ron Howard), who embodies the heart of the film with her vulnerable but fiercely vital performance. Like Shyamalan's other movies, THE VILLAGE has a distinct twist that offers shocking revelations, but this film's overwhelming sense of menace is what is sure to resonate with viewers long after it's over.

  • Love love it!

I saw this movie in theaters with my sister, a friend, and my friend's brother. Needless to say we were all expecting a straight-out horror flick but I am not sure why...what with M. Night's reputation for twists. Though I know others have disliked the Village, the four of us loved it and all for different reasons. Yeah it's a thriller and it can get pretty creepy at times, but I like it because of the love story it contains. There are such simple, sweet gestures of love that took my sentimental, cheesy movie loving breath away! The acting is superb (what exactly can Adrien Brody NOT do?), the story is shocking, and the overall effect is great!

  • You're all Monsters

Well, lets face it, M. Night Shyamalan pretty much stopped being clever after The Sixth Sense, Signs, and The Village. I mean how awful was Lady in the Water, seriously. He cast himself as the man who changes the world. That pretty much sums him up. The Village might be the last good thing he did. And sadly, a lot of people hate it. I enjoyed the Village because it reminds me of "Witness" with monsters. Real, fake, there are still monsters. Who are the monsters is the question. It's soft, quiet, poetic, smooth, and as it turns out, Bryce Dalles Howard's movie.

  • For their sect to venture into the forbidden forest to save a family member becomes quite suspenseful!

The Village is a timely film that depicts a sect of people in search of removing themselves from the chaos associated with "city life." With their families having experienced mayhem in the cities over the past years, they are found in a quiet place of solitude separated from the cities by a huge forest. It is made clear to their community that you should never enter the forest for fear of coming upon the "monsters" that inhabit it. When a family member becomes ill, one member of the sect chooses to enter the forest to travel to the city to secure the medicines needed. What ensues is challenging and suspenseful!

  • The village was interesting

This movie was not what I expected - but that can be a good thing too. Most movies today are copies of earlier ones or just unimaginative. The Village has a good story, and great cast. At times it was slow, but the suspense was good at times. I did not guess the ending - which is a big plus to me. Give this one a try - you might like it too.

  • Sufficient.

LOVE this movie! M Night, you outdid yourself with this one. You just can't go wrong with Phoenix - can not get enough of Joaquin!
