About this product

Product Information

As with most arcade conversions for the Atari VCS, Mr. Do! suffers a number of setbacks in comparison to its coin-op counterpart. Gone are the diamonds, the intermissions, the in-game music, and the various items that appear in the center of the screen. Also, the cherries are grouped in sets of six (instead of eight), the enemies flicker (and there are less of them onscreen at once), and simple horizontal lines substitute for textured grass. Despite these shortcomings, the game manages to entertain as it keeps intact the bare bones elements of the original. The intro and end music are recognizable, the action is quickly paced and highly challenging (thanks to surprisingly relentless enemies), and the tunnel-digging and ball-throwing gameplay is solid. One key complaint regarding strategy: unlike the original game (and the ColecoVision version), the apples begin falling the instant you tunnel under them, even if you stand directly beneath the apple without moving. Overall, Mr. Do! is a passable port of a great game, but for a more accurate port of a similar title, try Dig Dug for the VCS.

  • Small but nifty

Mr. Do for Atari 2600 is the Coleco version of the Universal arcade game. It replicates successfully most of the original but in a smaller screen. Some sounds are pretty similar, specially the cherries ones. The clown goes thru labyrinth cutting square holes because of video capabilities. The game works pretty reasonable, even flicker is acceptable and it will be a delight for any Atari player.
