  • Transamerica (2006, DVD)

I am a big Kevin Zegers fan and wanted to watch his performance in this film. I was not disappointed. The acting was excellent by the entire cast. They made me believe that a man could want to be a woman, and I felt the pain the parents went through. This adult film includes teen sex, gay sex, and graphic male images. It is not a family film. The plot involves characterization of parents who are so one sided that they cannot accept their son's discomfort at being male. I think people have more depth that the two actors portrayed here. This was the only disjointed part of the film. Kevin Zegers portrays a boy who sells himself to men for money. However, I felt the writing was weak, since he totally accepts this new 'woman' in his life and travels with her ...

  • BEYOND THE STARS

Felicity Huffman portrays a "man" going through the change -- to become a woman. If that were it, then it would be just another transgendered movie... but this real gurl shows that she' more woman then just another "Desperate Housewife" making movies for grins! The film was done before making her debut on Desperate Housewives, and shows talents beyond the stars. The movie is original in its "characterization" of a man wanting desperately to become a real woman, and makes Julie Andrews from Victor/Victoria fame seem transparent. The depth of Felicity's role as "Brie" is believable, as she struggles to be the "father" her son never had... This works well, beyond the "cheap flicks" that have been made ...

  • ALL-IN-ONE FATHER-MOTHER-SON

Timely, Topical and Twisted,Transamerica delivers the entire package. A least for awhile. (LOL) Felicity Huffman plays a man waiting to become a woman.(Transexual) Even though she really is a woman. Felicity earned an Oscar nomination (and should have won over spoiled Reese Witherspoon) and left her Desperate Housewives roots of glamour and shtick behind. She is wonderful in this family comedy/drama. Bree (Huffman) sets out on a journey to find her son,Toby (Kevin Zegers) (one she never knew she had) and rescue him from drugs, turning tricks and gay porn. This mission will complete his requirements (post op) and give closure to the man who wants to become a woman. Hottie Kevin Zegers, plays gay and the con-artist role very well. He tries to seduce his mother/father as they road trip ...

  • A touching eye-opener! Huffman is magnificent!!

This movie screams for a sequel. Felicity Huffman plays a difficult, often socially disdained role but comes out smelling like a rose! One cannot help but sympathize (or even fall in love) with the character, "Bree Osborne," as she struggles for identity. What is eye-opening is that the secret plight of transexual individuals is revealed as the movie unfolds. Kevin Zegers, Fionnula Flanigan, Burt Young, Elisabeth Pena and Graham Greene all add to the icing on the cake in their various supporting roles. Music by David Mansfield adds just the right touch. A few of the scenes can be jarring to the unprepared viewer but they are necessary to strengthen the role that Huffman plays. There's subtle comedy mixed with bites of drama throughout giving it just the right balance. ...
