    Start small, sound big!

There is a lot to say about the electronic piano keyboards. They aren't exactly pianos. They aren't instruments that you can become proficient with, for the most part, because electronic piano keyboards don't have the action or response of a piano. So... I give up! What good is a electronic piano keyboard? Good for making noise. Synthesizer noise! Well... why not make it as small as possible, to fit in the palm of your hand? This is just the thing! It's cheap it's small and it has all the basic 'synthesize' controls to get 'up to speed' with so much that the 'electronic music-world' is using! I'm sure some people will outgrow it quickly, but I have seen 'pros' using these little things a simple 'triggers' for sound effects along with their other gear. Take my advice, GET one ...

    It’s not the MKII

I want to warn people that there are people posting the MKII when they are actually selling the previous version. I ordered the Akai MPK Mini MKII and got the Akai MPK Mini instead. The MKII has a joystick in the upper left corner the one I got doesn’t have that control. It works fine but it’s disappointing that it’s not the correct one. The picture in the eBay post is so tiny you can’t tell that the joystick is missing, so be weary of posts with just a small picture. A question I got is if it sounds realistic, this is a midi controller it sounds like whatever you sounds your DAWs software instruments has available. It has pressure sensitivity so I guess in that sense it’s can be more realistic sounding than your regular computer keyboard. It’s portable, fits in a backpack. With the knobs ...

  • Great first gear...

I bought this for my brother when he started getting into sampling. As he confirmed, it is a great intro to the field, and works very well with different software suites. The compatibility is great, since it only comes with a couple synth packs. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to pursue sampling, and even for seasoned producers as an easy addition to your setup.

  • Works great, quality and cheap

Excellent piece of equipment, especially for the price. Super responsive, easy to use and plenty of functions and mixing capabilities. Piano keys are pressure sensitive for realistic soundplay, and the drumpad section is quick on response time. Would recommend to anyone looking for an affordable midi keyboard.

  • Good Beginner MIDI

Akai MPK mini is definitely a decent device with good drivers, but you can get the mini II for about the same price and I have heard its higher in quality. But, as a midi controller this is pretty good. You can configure it however you want with the simple but powerful software. My only real gripe is that it has a usb connector and no midi in/out, but that may actually be a benefit for some.
