About this product

Product Information

"A man walks into a talent agent's office with his family and says, Have I got an act for you! The talent agent replies, So what do you do?" So begins "The Aristocrats," a joke that has been handed down from comedian to comedian for decades but is rarely told on stage. The next part of the joke varies, allowing for improvisation, and the only requirement in telling the joke is that it be as offensive as possible.Paul Provenza and Penn Jillette spent two years documenting as many versions of this infamous joke as possible, cornering comedians like Drew Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Susie Essman, and Paul Reiser whenever and wherever possible. The results are surprising, and often take their humor to places that may make sensitive viewers uncomfortable. While comic legends such as Don Rickles, The Smothers Brothers, and Phyllis Diller admit their familiarity with the joke, they shy away from telling their own versions. Some may be surprised, however, to see performers who are normally associated with family-friendly material, including Bob Saget and Jason Alexander, describing scatological and incestuous acts with deadpan glee. Ultimately, though, THE ARISTOCRATS is more than just many versions of the same dirty joke--it is an exploration of the workings of the unrestricted comic mind.

Not for the faint of heart

A great movie about the joke teller's joke. Insights into the comic process and a great behind-the-scenes look at comedy performers in general. Great cast of characters, some well known, some lesser known, all interesting. Extremely offensive and graphic material. Not for kids or even most women. Be prepared to possibly be offended, and definitely be prepared to laugh.

  • Listening to this joke is like trying to look away from a train wreck-can't

Best disgusting Joke ever!!!I have tried for years to explain this joke to my wife, and finally I had the excuse to get the DVD. 17 minutes into it, she was..."I cannot believe this" Beautifully crafted, in both depth and scope. Edited well. Wonderful as to how one is lead into what is about to be heard. And the best is, i used to know the guy who 1st told it To Penn and Teller, many, many, many years ago!

  • The Artistocrats DVD is 90 min of Dirty Crass Fun

The concept is simple - top comedians tell the same joke, "The Aristocrats", in their own style and with their own filthy mannerisms and words. The result is a very guilty pleasure as the Aristocrats DVD is filthy and funny. The cast is stupendous (Gilbert Godfried is hands down the funniest!) and the DVD is well worth the purchase because the extra footage and scenes are as funny (if not better) than the films! A great movie for a humorous date or a night with some beers and BBQ. Comedians: Andy Dick, Billy Connolly, Bob Saget, Carrie Fisher, Dana Gould, Dave Thomas, David Brenner, David Steinberg, Don Rickles, Drew Carey, Eddie Izzard, Emo Philips, Eric Idle, Fred Willard, George Carlin, Gilbert Gottfried, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Howie Mandel, Jason Alexander, Joe Franklin, Jon ...

  • Wildest thing you’ll ever see

Totally irreverent joke told in filthiest words you can ever imagine. I loved seeing what each comic did with their version of the joke, going outside the box even with something like this. I thought the 2 funniest were Gilbert Godfried and the mime (with people walking by not realizing he was acting out the joke.). Hilarious. Many other funny spots, too.

  • brilliant and thought provoking, as well as funny

This movie is not just about a joke... it's about culture and censorship and art and creativity. While you can enjoy the creative process and the examination of individual comedians' styles, you also have to ask yourself what is offensive, and who decides it? Watching it with a group of people really highlights that aspect of the movie: no two people have the same lines drawn at the same place, and this movie crosses everyone's at some point or another. Interesting to realize how few of those different lines you've ever noticed before among your friends. Aside from those more intellectual and academic aspects, the movie is also flat out funny. If there's a bit that doesn't grab you, in just a few minutes, something else will. No two ways about it. I have never seen any other movie with ...
