  • Ultraviolet - Blu-ray

This film is another Comic made into a movie, and it stays true to the comic in that its continual action. With an uncomplicated plot that won't win any Oscars, this film concentrates on style and action. Both of which it excels in so well. Violets outfits and hair change color to her moods and surroundings, and looks so cool, as do the locations. But the action is simply breath taking, the fight scenes beautifully choreographed, and reminiscent of the first Matrix film. But the best part for action junkies is that its none stop throughout the movie. Rarely 10 minutes will pass without another fight scene, a mixture of martial arts, blades and guns that both mesmerizes and delights. Its like watching a trailer, were all the brilliant action scenes are blended into one continuous high ...

  • Eye candy...yep, that sums it up. Eye candy.

This is not a good movie. What it really is is an excuse for Mila to jump around in color-changing, skin tight outfits for 87 minutes (in high definition, no less!) The visual quality of the Blu-Ray version is good, with one caveat: In some scenes, they used some sort of digital filtering to make the characters' faces look very...featureless. I'm guessing it was done to make it look more like a comic book, but whatever it is, it makes them appear unfocused and even a little blurry. Check out the scene with V and Six on the subway car to see what I'm talking about. I will say that the vivid colors used throughout the movie are nothing short of spectacular. Also of note: this is presented in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, so it takes up almost the entire 16:9 screen, ...

  • May not be for everyone

This movie will appeal to you if you are big into Anime or just a general Scifi buff. I am the latter of the two. Visually, the movie is fantastic. Lots of color and fast moving scenes. Some of the style, like the fuzzy facial shots (which is meant to mimic a cartoon I guess), can a bit distracting at times but I suppose it goes with the theme. And Jovovich is definitely looking particularly good in this one. Audio is as good as the visual. The Dolby Digital PCM sound is very dynamic and helps to keep you immersed in the experience. My 7.1 setup got a great workout from this one (even though it is listed as only a 5.1 soundtrack). The movie itself I would say is just ok. It seems they focused more on the production of the movie then they did the content. The acting is ok but ...

  • Ultraviolet: Technicolor Eye-Candy

If stunning visual effects put the lead in your pencil, then you will love Ultraviolet...for the first 20 minutes. Ultraviolet is a video game disguised as a feature film. Packed with silly dialogue, and (yawn) boring when no-one is fighting or chasing each other up the sides of buildings. The "blood wars" thing would've worked just fine without anyone actually becoming vampires - they could have just keep it viral (like '28 Days Later' did) and it would have made much more sense. Even the gratutious violence couldn't salvage this one for me. Great FX, predictable cliche-ridden storyline. Watch it with the volume down and a Nine Inch Nails CD on 10. However, if you are even mildly infatuated with Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil, The Fifth Element) then buy ...

  • Ultraviolet on Blu Ray

Ok, this may not be the best film ever, but it's definately a good addition to the Blu Ray library. Story and plot are pretty good at best, and the acting decent but a little cheesy at times. But you need to take into account that this is like a comic book. After thinking like that, it's a lot more fun to watch! The visuals on Blu Ray are phenomenal! Bright colors, strong contrasts on whites and blacks and stunning clarity make this a must for Blu Ray owners!
