Marshall The Guv'nor overdrive pedal. Absolutely awesome
The history of The Guv'nor and successor pedals the Blues Breaker, Drive Master (Said to have the same circuitry as The Guv'nor but repackaged) and Shred Master is available elsewhere. Getting one of these pedals, especially an old Guv'nor, that WORKS is the problem. This is the second, failing pedal I've bought in the last week. When it's connecting inside it is truly awesome. Massive sound with its lovely 3 tone controls which allow boosted bass or scooped mids (metal) or whateve one wants, unlike the common "tone" knobs. Gain goes from barely discernable to stunningly delicious raunch, ripping sheets. Way unlike over a dozen more modern pedals I've tried, it does not just make a lot of chatter or fuzz when gain goes up. With my short scale bass, low notes are defined, not fuzzed out ... Marshall Guvnor GV-2: So versatile, so strong, best distortion I have play
I bought the Marshall Guv'nor GV-2 distortion (not the classic Guv'nor pictured next to this review). After 20 years of faithful service, my Classic pedal was starting to give me some extraneous noise. Since I loved its sound, I wanted to stay with the Marshall brand if possible, and found the updated GV-2 on ebay. Here's my reaction to the GV-2. It has all the same basic controls as the original Guv'nor, plus an extra low-end EQ knob. The EQ knobs are dual, so you get all the control in only four knob spaces instead of five. This allows the unit to be more slender than the original, more the size of most other stomp boxes on the market. The GV-2's ionput and output jacks are on each side, as opposed to being located on the top edge as on the Classic model. The styling is unique, retro, ... I bought the Marshall Guv'nor GV-2 distortion (not the classic Guv'nor pictured next to this review). The low end goes hugely fat if you want it to, allowing amazing power crunches. The gain knob allows you to select from a full range of distortion intensity. The four-band EQ gives it an incredible range of sounds. The overall sound is a clean, strong distortion, and the nuances are up to you. The people I play with all noticed the difference in tone, sustain, and clarity, and are all favorably impressed. I rely on this unit for most of my playing, and it supports me totally. For the price I paid, I can't imagine a better value. I honestly don't know what you could improve on with this box. I am, as you can probably tell, 100% satisfied. It's too bad that Marshall is not producing these beauties any more.

Saweeeet sound!!!
I learned about this pedal watching my favorite YouTuber Dave Simpson. It really sounds like a marshall since my lead 15 is a one channel amp this adds the distortion. It's really like a higher gain overdrive than a distortion but it's even better with a tube screamer or fuzz/distortion added to it and I love it by itself as well. I like to combine effects processors along with my stomp boxes for a variety of sounds and convenience I learned about this pedal watching my favorite YouTuber Dave Simpson. Amazing. Anything from adding slight reverb to your clean to turning it dirty and metal is at your fingertips. I bought it to get a cranked tube but mostly clean sound which it absolutely does. What surprised me was how chunky it can get when you dime the gains.
