  • This Opens Up a Animation Door I Knew Nothing About

    This DVD and the series it came from commemorates animator George Pal, and while you may not know his name, you've likely seen his work and didn't know who he was. Much of his work was made using wooden puppets in stop-motion animation, much like claymation today. I bought this more for the extras, that show his commercial and entertainment work. One thing about George Pal, who fled Europe as WWII was breaking out, is that he was very highly respected, so his work features Duke Ellington, Peggy Lee, a cameo by Bugs Bunny, Charlie Barnet, and other big names of the time. His Jasper series featuring a young African American was wrong then and he changed his approach when the NAACP called him out. The commercial work he did, especially for Phillips Radio, before WWII, is just incredible ...
