Entertaining with great features but quite exaggerated.
It is a very entertaining movie. The good: Richard Harris and Charlotte Rampling, two legends of the screen together give a great performance. Location, scenery and photography are great. The bad: Orcas are known to be one of the most intelligent mammals on the planet, but the movie is quite exaggerated. Nevertheless, it will keep you at full attention during its whole extent.

ORCA The Killer Whale. A great cast with terrific special effects!
The story of a Killer whale matching wits with a determined fisherman. Loved this movie when I first saw it. Bo Dereks first film prior to the beach running scene in "10" which made her famous. I like older movies, when it took a different skill set to achieve special effects, just had to buy this on dvd to watch and enjoy whenever I please.

I remember seeing this movie back in the 70s. This movie seems very relevant today, with Orcas in the news for attacking boars. Richard Harris is almost an Ahab character. His mission was to bring an orca to a Sea World type show. Charlotte Rampling is an expert in whales and advises him not to try this, but Harris waves off her warnings. When he finally nets one, a female, it becomes a tragedy, as the orca is pregnant and loses the baby and its life. As orcas mate for life, the male begins a vendetta against Harris. The photography is beautiful as is the music. Also in the cast, in an early role, Bo Derek.I remember seeing this movie back in the 70s. I saw this movie at the movies and this was one of the movies that stood out in my mind as one of the best thrillers of its time. I watched the move when I received it in the mail. I always wanted a copy specially in DVD form. The movie was just as exciting as when I first watched it. I consider this movie a classic, a permanent part of my collection. If this DVD was lost or damaged I would not hesitate to buy a replacement. This is a movie that I can watch over and over. Good acting. Good story line. I like how it makes you see whales as creatures with emotions much like our own and how man has uselessly hurt them. In a way it is a love story between two whales. It is a very good movie that I would recommend to everyone who loves adventure and nature. Good acting and background music during the movie as well as some beautiful scenery of the whales and the ocean. There are some bloody attack scenes which are probably necessary to get the point across, so it may be a bit disturbing to young children.I like how it makes you see whales as creatures with emotions much like our own and how man has uselessly hurt them. In a way it is a love story between two whales. It is a very good movie that I would recommend to everyone who loves adventure and nature.
