Excellent show from England. If you liked Minder or the Sweeney you'll love this. Dennis Waterman is one of three retired detectives recuited by up and coming superintendent who career is sidelined by one bad publicity incident ("you shoot one bloody dog...!"). Together they are UCOS - Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad, solving crimes of the past thought to be forgotten. Together with James Bolam (a grieving widow) and Alun Armstrong (a brilliant but excessive compulsive detective) and run by Amanda Redman (a no nonsence goal orientated leader) they solve all kinds of long forgotten cases using modern and old fashioned technics.Excellent show from England. Never seems to date
I think I am biased but I still like the earlier series best of all because they include the original characters who really make New Tricks work. There is just the right mixture of gentle comedy and serious detective work. Watching New Tricks is not too demanding but is sufficiently gripping to hold attention. I have enjoyed revisiting this series. I had almost forgotten how good it was!
