I bought this and MH3U for the 3DS. The thing that swayed me away from just buying the latest version of monster hunter was that I could transfer game saves between this game and my 3DS, and I got both games for the same price as I would have paid for MH4U. Online play with my brother is a lot of fun and I am definitely getting my money's worth out of this title. I've already sunk so many hours into it because the thrill of hunting a giant monster that could swallow me whole is incredibly addicting and the stories it creates that I can share with my brother and laughs we've had made it a worthy addition to my small library of Wii U titles. This game is definitely more fun with friends and much easier. That doesn't make single player any less addicting. If you enjoy hunting extremely dangerous dragons and creatures of similar imposing size and then carving them into a new fancy hat, this game is for you. The one gripe I have over this game is the item system can be frustrating sometimes to use, especially when trying to trap monsters. I can't tell you the number of times I've spent 25-40 minutes setting up a monster to be trapped, I set the trap, and just as the monster falls for my cleverly placed trap I quickly try to switch to tranq bombs and when I go to throw...my guy decides it's a better choice to roast some raw meat because as I was swapping to the tranq bombs I accidentally hit the y button before hitting L to change inventory. Also why must I flex after drinking and eating? That has caused untold amounts of frustration because he health I just regained is lost as the monster smashes into me. Most of this is timing and skill-based which all can be improved, but still gets me mad. Overall I would recommend this game to anyone and especially if you can convince even one friend to hop online with you and play. The game has been out long enough were you can pick it up at a value price if you look around.Read full review

Bad controls. Strange linear gameplay. Repetitive. Nothing close to BOTW or other wii u action games.

There is not much to say about this game. It's what you would expect from a great game. It has all the features you need. Good graphics, exciting hunts, challenge, online co-op, etc. The biggest downfall this game has though, is it's huge learning curve, so it'll take a bit to get used to this if you've never played Monster Hunter before. This Monster Hunter game is probably one of the best so far, and probably only falls short to Monster Hunter 4 with added features, but if we get 4 on Wii U, it'll be even better than this. This is a great buy, plus you can get it for cheap.
Perhaps the best game in the Monster Hunter franchise, this is the most balanced and rich Monster Hunter experience I've had. While some of the weapon mechanics feel antiquated now, the variety of monsters, the underwater portions, and the overall design of the game hold up well and still make for a really fun game.

It's a good title, the graphics are a little behind, and disappointed that it isn't fully voiced, but the gameplay is good, and the controls easy, you get into it pretty fast, an enjoyable game.

Love the MH series and this entry is really great. Only downside for anyone looking for a fun game to coop is that it is local only. Cool thing is that multiplayer works with the 3ds version so you and your buddies don't all have to have a Wii U to play together.

Smudge and small scratch on it. Works perfectly. Would buy again.

Great game, even if it feels a little dated compared to 4 Ultimate and Generations. Performance could be better, but it's definitely still an enjoyable experience!

A great game that is much better than MHTri. There are more weapon styles, Monsters, Areas, features, better multiplayer sistem. I recommend this game to all MH lovers. The best experience i had with this franchise is through MH3U.
Enjoyed the gameplay and online interaction. Good amount of customization, and questings. An upgrade from previous titles. 3DS interaction was a good feature.
